A symbol of local identity, made with innovative technology for one of Irpinia’s most important civic spaces.
As part of the recent refurbishment of the “Pietro Foglia” Council Chamber, located in the historic Palazzo Caracciolo, headquarters of the Province of Avellino, the institution’s new coat of arms was installed. It was created through advanced 3D modeling and additive manufacturing.
The work formed part of a wider refurbishment of the council chamber carried out by SO.ME. S.r.l. The chamber hosts Provincial Council meetings and major institutional events. Its new layout was inaugurated during the election of the new President of the Province of Avellino, providing a renewed setting that better reflects the institution’s role.
The Province of Avellino initially planned a traditional decorative element. It later opted for a coat of arms with greater visual quality, precision and durability. 3D printing was chosen for its ability to reproduce heraldic details faithfully and deliver a high-quality result.
3DRap S.r.l., a Mercogliano-based company specializing in design and industrial additive manufacturing, was entrusted with the digital modeling. The team carefully reconstructed the Province’s official coat of arms in three dimensions, paying particular attention to its symbolic elements, proportions and final appearance.
Additive manufacturing turned a historic symbol into a striking physical feature. The project shows how innovation can help preserve and celebrate local identity, and how 3D printing can serve institutional, cultural and architectural settings as well as industry.
Installing the coat of arms in the “Pietro Foglia” Council Chamber demonstrates how tradition and innovation can work together, strengthening the institution’s identity and the community’s sense of belonging.
For 3DRap, this project carries strong symbolic value. Made in Irpinia, it is now part of a space where the Province of Avellino’s history, decisions and future meet.
