3D Printing from LIDAR Files

3DRap is launching a new service for prototyping 3D models from LIDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) files. LIDAR is a scanning technique that, in geology and seismology, has become one of the main tools for detecting faults, subsidence and other geological movements when combined with airborne GPS equipment: the combination of these two technologies can provide extremely accurate elevation maps of the terrain that can reveal ground elevation.
Through a conversion process, we can export a 3D-printable .stl file for our machines in the lab and, by dividing it into modules, create even large-scale physical models that are very useful for architectural and geological studies or museum exhibitions.
