We are delighted to share one of the latest projects we have been involved in: 3D printing a model for a telecommunications engineering thesis.
The thesis was titled “Ultrasound Measurements for 3D/4D Ultrasound Scanners”.
The aim of the thesis was to produce a 3D print from a model generated from prenatal ultrasound images.
Because the project involved a 3D scan of a fetus, it required an ultrasound device that uses the Doppler effect. Once the scan was complete, the student turned to us to produce the model, after making it compatible with our standards using a well-known CAD software package.
The model was produced on our Prusa i3 using PLA (polylactic acid, a lactic acid polymer derived from agricultural waste).
The print settings used for this specific model were:
Layer height: 0.2mm (height of each layer, print resolution)
Fill density: 100% (material infill level)
Print speed: 30mm/s (printing speed)
Temperature: 220°
Filament diameter used: 1.759mm (average)
Given the geometry of the part, it was necessary to enable automatic generation of print supports to avoid extrusion into empty space and the resulting surface irregularities. The support infill level was set to 70%.
For further details, please see the complete thesis presentation, which the student kindly sent us.
