On Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Multimedia Center in Piazza S.Pietro e Paolo in the Borgo di Capocastello district of Mercogliano (AV), the journey toward the 22nd edition of Castellarte – International Street Artists Festival began with a conference titled “The world of open source, open hardware and opportunities.”
In this talk, Domenico Orsi, Co-Founder/CEO of 3DRap.it and Co-Founder of the Mogo Lab creative workshop, explains the impact of open source on 3D printing and craftsmanship.

After greetings from Castellarte Association President Francesco Dello Russo and Mercogliano Mayor Massimiliano Carullo, and an introduction by the event’s organizer, Claudio Ferraro, Gennaro Ragucci, Patrick Arminio and Carmine De Rosa also spoke alongside us. Journalist Antonella Russoniello moderated the discussion.
Gennaro Ragucci and Patrick Arminio’s presentation focused on “The world of open source and open hardware,” explaining how free and open-source software can help the world of craftsmanship in practical ways. Arduino, for example, is an electronic board with a microcontroller and control circuitry that makes it possible to create prototypes quickly. Arduino can be used to build devices such as lighting controllers, sensors and many other projects relatively easily; its accompanying software is open source, and its circuit diagrams are distributed as open hardware.
Finally, Carmine De Rosa introduced a hands-on theory and practice course for beginners and experts, scheduled to begin on May 15 at 17:30, provided at least 6 people register. For information: Carmine De Rosa 3391805849.
We thank the other members of the Mogo Lab workshop—Sara Bochicchio, Cristina Lago and Pellegrino Tomeo—for their valuable contribution, and the Castellarte Association for this great opportunity.
