The #fromvirtualtoreal project, launched a few months ago by 3DRap’s engineers, continues to introduce innovations and developments in the world of motorsport, supporting drivers and sim drivers who have moved from virtual racing to real circuits. From the Sim racing sector, one of the most popular eSports among users, the company took to the track for the Formula Predator’s championship as a technical partner of the Sim Racing Zone team. This partnership has enabled 3DRap to continue expanding its wealth of experience and exploring new opportunities for exchange and cross-pollination between the real and virtual worlds.
Developing the Assetto Corsa Mod
Thanks to continuous interaction with the drivers and the telemetry data required to identify the main parameters of vehicle dynamics, with the support of Ak InformaticaSamsung, Sparco Gaming, Mondiale Racing Srl, Project Engineering, ddn tube, Drive Game Seat and Road racing, the 3DRap team has developed an “ULTRA REAL” mod for Assetto Corsa, capable of faithfully replicating the vehicle’s dynamics and the impact of certain setup changes. The main goal is to help drivers competing in the 2019 Formula X Italian Series championship improve their performance. In fact, the updated mod displays behavior similar to that of the car in a real-world environment, giving drivers the opportunity to undertake training aimed at understanding the vehicle’s behavior.
Simulator Training and Steering Wheel Design
Starting with the next track event, the simulator will be in the paddock with the same steering wheel equipped with a gear indicator and LEDs for optimal gear shifts, developed for the cars of Alberto Naska, Blink 46, Adriano Albano and Amos Laurito, official drivers for the Sim Racing Zone and aksparcoracing teams. They also appreciated the steering wheel’s ergonomics, with its Filaflex grip, a rubber-like material that, when covered in leather, provides a pleasantly soft feel.
“The #fromvirtualtoreal project,” says Domenico Orsi, Additive Manufacturing Director at 3DRap, “was not merely a styling exercise, but a genuine testing ground that led us to very positive results. Our team has gained greater awareness during the design phase thanks to direct interaction with both professional and non-professional drivers, who shared with us issues relating to ergonomics, design and driving feel. Furthermore, the communication channel we created between the real and virtual worlds has allowed real-world drivers and sim drivers to exchange advice, ideas and experiences. Our contacts with major influencers such as Naska, Blink 46 and Laurito have also strengthened our brand. Above all, however, we now have the opportunity to explore the motorsport market and identify its shortcomings, allowing us to continue our work and develop new products.”
