3DRap’s printers are entering the world of music with a prototype trumpet assembly for a harmonica. At a customer’s request, our team created a prototype of the trumpet assembly based on the brass trumpets fitted to the vintage Trumpet Call harmonica, made by Hohner in the early 1900s. It is one of the many accessories that enthusiasts use to personalize the instrument.

This is an example of Create in action: 3DRap’s platform lets users turn any idea into something tangible and hold a prototype of an object before producing its final version. That is the case with these trumpets, which provide all the information needed to make the brass ones. The aim of this 3DRap product is to give the customer a PLA trumpet assembly at a very low production cost, allowing them to assess its dimensions and identify any issues before making the final version.
“Our prototype,” explained Davide Cervone, a modeling engineer at 3DRap, “was made through additive manufacturing using fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing, a technique that offers great flexibility in shaping the final object. Producing that object still requires a highly hands-on process and the utmost precision in its dimensions. This way, our customer will have a complete, low-cost prototype to present to the company that will make the brass trumpets for their diatonic harmonica.”

Beyond the ability to shape the trumpets without particular geometric constraints, this prototype offers several advantages. These include the ability to create a trumpet assembly compatible with more modern diatonic harmonicas while saving time—the prototype is ready in just 6 hours—and money. Traditional manufacturing techniques would certainly cost more to produce the same object.
3DRap’s PLA trumpet assembly for harmonica is a model that echoes a piece of music history. The prototype made with Create is a masterpiece that evokes the legendary Hohner Trumpet Call, its unique design and its unmistakable sound. With 3DRap’s innovation and creativity, you really can travel back and forth through time. All it takes is an idea.
